The church of San Francesco, originally erected in the 13th century, was rebuilt in Gothic style between 1318 and 1377. It was restored at the beginning of the 20th century. The façade was left unfinished.
The inside contains the famous Leggenda della Vera Croce ("Legend of the True Cross"), a great cycle of frescoes by Renaissance painter Piero della Francesca. It is just breathtaking!
You can see the fresco without paying the entrance fee from far away. But I recommend that you pay the fee and take a closer look.
